The collection consists of records relating to the Organizations Assisting Schools in September (OASIS) from 1955-1962. Includes correspondence, minutes, news releases, newsletters, and printed material documenting OASIS's efforts of coordinating a peaceful school integration in Atlanta, Georgia. The minutes of community meetings reveal the methodology by which OASIS hoped to persuade those who might oppose the desegregation effort. The correspondence is between local citizens and public officials who had been closely involved in the first school integration effort, including Mayor William B. Hartsfield, Chief of Police Herbert Jenkins, and School Superintendent John Letson.
